Emily Prince at Venice Biennial 2007
Emily Prince at Venice Biennial 2007
The discussed here artwork consists of pencil portraits by the American artist Emily Prince based on photographs of American soldiers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. She began the project in 2004, relying on photographs posted on a military Web site by family members. This was an unspeakably early success for the artist to represent such a country as the USA at such early age. Looking toward more groundbreaking works by this artist. She appears not very active anymore. This was a very sensitive memorial subject for a drawing, equal to other huge memorials. Not many people ever challenged the same alone.
Re: Emily Prince at Venice Biennial 2007
She probably received complaints from families, because it was not really an official endeavor. She appears to make a name on the count of these personal tragedies. But it is anyway quite stunning work. So much time is invested in each portrait. Very special work. Very special effort.
