If I were someone, who spent $5000 to acquire the work of Nicholaas Chiao (Nicholas Chistiakov) at the Affordable Art Fair in New York in 2006 from the booth of Behr-Thyssen Ltd., I'd probably care to maintain this value and increase this value. In my opinion, this is supposed to be the task of a gallery, not a collector, to arrange Museum exhibitions, press coverage, and manage the auction market. But what if the gallery was financially too weak to deal with these issues? I'd probably consider continuing to collect artists with powerful reputations, like Andy Warhol, Takashi Murakami, and Damien Hirst. This way I'd acquired a more reputable collection. But what if I am not Charles Saatchi to show it off in my gallery, gain exposure, press, and increase the value? I'd hoped that Nicholaas Chiao will manage his career accordingly. That this $5000 become $10000 and more.
