Only Cultural and Economic expansion would have worked for Russia to keep Warsaw Pact and post USSR block

Open military confrontation only create long time anger and dissection of partnership instead of fulfilling objectives. Russia supposed to fund own Hollywood, own Woodstock and own IBM corporation with all this sexy and ATTRACTIVE goods and services. Nobody will love Russia in Ukraine under treat of death.
